Description

Entrepreneurship is more than starting a business. It’s a mindset that can change the way you work and live. Discover the framework for thinking and acting that successful entrepreneurs rely on and learn how it can empower you as a hopeful entrepreneur, business owner or employee. During the program, you will master the entrepreneurial mindset and develop critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.

This course will utilize the Ice House content and curriculum developed by the Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative in partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

Objectives

Upon program completion participants will be able to:

  • demonstrate critical thinking skills enabling them to identify and evaluate entrepreneurial opportunities, manage risks and learn from results.
  • describe the process that enables entrepreneurs with limited resources to transform a simple idea into a sustainable success.
  • establish personal goals, identify resources and establish steps to accomplish their goals.
  • develop a personal brand and bolster their professional networks.

Content

Components of an entrepreneurial mindset

1. The Power to Choose

  • Examine beliefs and assumptions that empower entrepreneurs
  • Analyze circumstances surrounding entrepreneurial success and failure
  • Highlight ones ability to enable conscious choices rather than allow circumstances to determine the course of their life.

2. Recognizing Opportunities

  • Utilizing the concept of problem generation to identify opportunities

3. Ideas into Action

  • Think big. Start small. Act Fast.
  • Focusing energy on things you have the power to change
  • Goal setting

4. Pursuit of Knowledge

  • Identify the impact of knowledge applied to the effort
  • Analyze the power of self-directed life-long learning

5, Creating Wealth

  • Key components of financial management
  • Illustrate how entrepreneurs create sustainable wealth regardless of circumstances.

6. Building Your Brand

  • The individual as the brand.
  • The importance of reliability as a key to building a successful and sustainable brand.

7. Creating Community

  • Learn how to connect and collaborate with innovators, entrepreneurs, mentors, trusted advisors, and community leaders.

8. The Power of Persistence

  • Tactics to withstand the challenges, setbacks, and self-doubt.
  • Entrepreneurs don’t “get rich quick.”

  • How to fund and finance your business.

Business Start-Up Series – 4 Sessions

Session 2: Business Concept (March 3, 2020)

The first workshop focuses on your business concept and step-by-step guidance in researching your idea, your market, and your competition. At the end of the Business Concept Workshop, you are able to identify your target markets, describe your products and services, and collect key competitive information to support your feasibility plan.

Session 3: Marketing Plan (March 10 2020)

The second workshop provides you with an introduction to marketing communication methods and tools to maximize your customer reach. The discussion in the Marketing Plan Workshop covers pricing strategies, positioning, the difference between features and benefits, and different marketing strategies. At the end of this session, you will know how to outline your marketing strategy, test your marketing message, choose the right sales channel, and exercise your marketing strategy.

Session 4: Financial Projections (March 17, 2020)

The third workshop uses exercises to help you better understand financial concepts. This session reviews sales and prices, financial risks and rewards, true start-up costs, ongoing operating expenses, setting benchmarks for tracking progress and the organization of all your financial information. Using a hands-on approach, you learn how to use our financial model to forecast sales revenue and build solid pro-forma financial forecasts.

Session 5: Funding Sources and Next Steps (March 24, 2020)

The final workshop offers information on how to finance your small business. In this session, discussions include sources of funds, accounting the six C’s of credit, banking relations, ratio analysis, and monthly preparation and review of financial statements. A bank loan officer will give an inside view of how a banker assesses the merit of business plans and loan application. At the end of the series, you have all the tools necessary to decide whether or not to launch your small business.

Attend all four sessions for $150.00 (A second person from the same company is an additional $50.00)

The Business Start-Up Workshop Series is presented by SCORE Certified Mentors. Free one-on-one counseling is part of the workshop process.
