THE BARKEEP
At some point, everyone needs a perception shift to see life through a different lens. For native Charlottean Sunkul Soni, owner of Taproom Social in Uptown, that perception shift occurred over the four years he lived in New York City. It was during this time when he came across a new bar concept where people poured their own beers. He knew right away that he wanted to build a similar business. Real estate being what it is in NYC, Sunkul and his wife decided to move back to Charlotte—and in May of 2019, after he’d found the perfect street-level location across from Truist Field, he launched Taproom Social. With 50 different beers and wines that you serve yourself, a full-kitchen, and a prime location—it’s the kind of concept that will surely take off. See how Sunkul managed to stay afloat during the height of the pandemic, and is now preparing for an Uptown resurgence.
Taproom Social received an Access to Capital Grant which was used to help create a more welcoming and open space for patrons.
